Getting Started

Welcome to Open Colleges

It’s great to have you with us. We really want you to feel at home with your online studies. The best way to do that is to make sure you are confident with your OpenSpace platform. If you haven’t done so already, I recommend joining one of our interactive online orientations with the Learning Support Team. Our students and graduates have found these 30 minute sessions extremely beneficial to their studies.

Remember you are never alone at Open Colleges. If you ever need support – just reach out. Our goal is to help you achieve your goal.

  • Student Handbook – the Student Handbook is filled with useful information about all aspects of learning at Open Colleges. It’s a good overview of what to do and who is who.
  • Induction and Orientation – our student induction and orientation is an important part of introducing you to Open Colleges and studying online. It will help set you up for a successful online learning experience. We recommend you start with the online induction and orientation videos.
  • OpenSpace – watch the OpenSpace videos to see how to navigate around OpenSpace. That way you’ll feel more confident about how to do things like accessing your learning materials, uploading assessments, getting your assessment feedback and contacting your trainer.
  • Request an induction call – our friendly learning support team is on hand to help you with your induction and orientation. After watching the videos, if you need further help or advice, you can book a personal one-on-one induction and orientation appointment with one of our learning support officers.
  • Your trainer – your trainer is your key contact for all your academic-related questions about your learning materials and assessments. You can contact your trainer through the message function in OpenSpace.
  • Student Support Contact Centre – should you have any general or administrative questions about your course or you’re not sure who to contact for what, then our student support team is available to help you. You can contact the team by phone Monday to Friday 8:30 am – 8:00 pm and Saturday 9:00 am – 5:00 pm.
  • Online resources – there’s a wealth of resources available to you online. Got a quick question, why not try our online FAQs knowledge base? Whether you need help researching and writing your assessments, getting started and keeping on track with your studies, brushing up on computer skills needed for your course, or have questions about our policies and procedures, you’ll find it all online.
